I designed “The SBG Triad” using component shapes found in Assignment 1.1. In Assignment 1.1 I isolated the base shapes from a Baby Yoda eraser that had three distinct segments, which could be separated and rearranged at will. I used the number 3 as a major basis for “The SBG Triad” with all major measurements decided using arithmetical alterations to the number 3 [i.e. 3/2=1.5, 3, 32=6, 33=9]. I also focused on the idea of rearrangements and the ability to connect in two directions (because the Baby Yoda eraser was able to be rearranged and the segments were able to connect to each other in the standard formation and ‘upside down’).
I created three independent sculptures that are meant to be viewed either independently or all together (not a combination of two of them to follow the theme of threes). Each independent sculpture is 9” tall and created solely from the shapes and colors of their respective source segment. The first sculpture, designated “S,” is based on the shapes of the Baby Yoda eraser platform and is colored silver in accordance. The second sculpture, designated “B,” is based on the Baby Yoda eraser’s midsection and colored brown in accordance with Yoda’s garments. The third sculpture, designated “G,” is based on Baby Yoda’s head; it features green, black, and white in accordance to Baby Yoda’s skin (green) and eyes (black and white). The total height of the combined prime variant (designated SBG AA) is 25”. The combined height of B and G, when stacked in the upright position, is 16,” which is the canonical height of Baby Yoda. There are a total of 31 sculptural variations (singles and triples).

Understanding the variant names:
Each variant’s name is comprised of three main aspects: the order of the sculptures (combination of S, B, & G), the direction of the independent sculpture (either A or B), and, when necessary, the subcategory within those categories (‘c’ for variants that feature BG AB combinations with a central connection versus the standard connection). Each variant has at least two photos, which are numbered. For example, the ‘standard’ variant (also known as “Triad Prime”) is called SBG AA; Triad Prime is in the order S, B, G bottom-up with B and G in the A positions (note: S does not have distinctive A and B forms so does not receive an A/B designation). Below you will find pages dedicated to the 3 independent sculptures, the 6 possible combination orders (in alphabetical order), and a series of detail shots.
